Tucker has a sad story. He ended up in a kill-shelter in Greenville, SC after wandering the streets with scars on his ears, covered in fleas and worst of all tested positive for heartworms. Its amazing he has survived. Despite all of this, he is one of the sweetest little doxies you will ever meet. You will love him as soon as you meet him...he would love nothing more to just snuggle in your lap all day. We can tell that Tucker came in and was not used to human interaction. He would back away or get down on the ground when we would pick him up and he didn't know how to give kisses. But after a couple of days, that seems like a distant memory! Tucker is a fast learner and LOVES human interaction. He loves to be held and will melt right into you and lay your head on your shoulder.
Tucker is very good at going potty outside as long as you take him outside regularly. He understands the word no and is a good listener! He always comes when called.
WHen he first came to the house, he seemed to be fearful of the other dogs in the house (2 doxies and 2 larger mixes) and growled a little bit but now he watches what they do and copies off of them! He snuggles with them and tries to play with the big boys!
This sweet sweet boy does not deserve the pain that heartworms cause and FDR knows he is worth every cent to get him healthy again! Tucker will be in Columbia for his heartworm treatment but then will be ready for adoption in August!
If you are interested in adopting him, please fill out an application! If you would like to donate to help Tucker in his treatment, please visit our donation page.
We encourage adopters from all over the United States and will do our absolute best to accommodate you in arranging for transportation if you choose to adopt a dachshund from FDR. If your dachshund of choice is coming from a state other than the one you reside in, there will be an additional $40.00 Health Certificate Fee that is required by law. Thank you for supporting a dachshund in need.
