Sweet little Mandy is happy to be starting her new life! Let me tell you her story. Mandy is a tiny long-coated Dachshund that was saved from a puppy mill. She was not producing enough puppies in her litters so after several years of constant breeding and nursing she was dumped at an animal shelter by her breeder. She and her three sisters were picked up by a wonderful all breed rescue and then transferred to us to find them all Doxie loving homes. Mandy is up to date on all vacccines and has been spayed. Her breeder never cared for her teeth so during her dental she lost all of her little front incisors. She can still eat small kibble and loves little puppy snacks; you can't even tell she is missing teeth unless you open her mouth to look. Mandy is timid at first but the liberal application of tasty treats wins her over quickly. Having had to struggle with other dogs for enough to eat, she treats every meal like it is her last. Mandy is good with big dogs and little dogs but doesn't really play a lot. She is just learning that humans mean comfort and love and will settle cautiously into your arms when you pet her. She is learning to love being hugged and loved on and needs a family with patience who understands that forcing or rushing her will only feed her fears. Because Mandy is so small and so timid, we will not allow her to go to a home with children. Since Mandy was born and lived most of her life in a concrete kennel she is struggling with house training and will probably never be 100% reliable. Frequent visits outside and the use of puppy panties helps her learn and keep from making mistakes. We encourage adopters from all over the United States and will do our absolute best to accommodate you in arranging for transportation if you choose to adopt a dachshund from FDR. If your dachshund of choice is coming from a state other than the one you reside in, there will be an additional $40.00 Health Certificate Fee that is required by law.
