UPDATED BIO (June 2011)

Trooper came to his foster home scared and snarling.  Luckily he took to his foster dad mom right away.  He is very loyal to them now, and is always trying to get their attention to play or lay on their laps.  Trooper likes to play rough, and gets very, very vocal.  The other young dogs like it, but it's too much for the cat most times.  Trooper doesn't like big dogs though, and lets them know in his dachshund way.

Trooper plays hard and since he plays so hard, and can be mouthy, care should be taken around children.  He hasn't been near any in his foster home.

Trooper had two surgeries to fix his many broken bones.  As a result, he walks a little crooked, and has a left-front leg limp the vet says he may have for the rest of his life.  It really adds to his "pretty boy" character though (see photos). He runs and plays with the rest of the puppies, just tires faster.  Walks should be at his pace.

Although he carries himself like a bad boy, he will cry and bark when left alone (but stops after a few minutes).  He is now crate trained but if given the option he'd definitely love to sleep in the bed with someone, but care should be taken that he wouldn't fall off in the middle of the night as he has many pins and plates holding his fragile bones together.

Trooper is a beautiful, short-haired red, with the true dachshund spirit.  His spirit kept him alive after being hit by a car, and through a lack of vet care for three long weeks.  In the meantime, Trooper had to drag himself around with only one leg.  His love of life helped him through the next three months of intensive, painful therapy after surgery to fix three legs and his pelvis.  Trooper has healed beautifully, and is ready to begin the rest of his life now with his furever family.

Please consider adopting Trooper! He is a special guy with lots of love to give.  His story is inspirational, but his love of life and loyalty are what makes him truly special.
