BIO:

Melvin was found wandering the streets in Concord, North Carolina and ended up in a shelter. He was passed up by people wanting mini-dachshunds and sat at the shelter for a while before we were contacted. The shelter felt that he was digressing and becoming depressed and asked if we could take him into our foster system. We did so gladly! Melvin is a very sweet, even tempered and relaxed dog. He loves to snuggle and sleep in the big bed at night and enjoys lounging around during the day.

Melvin is wonderful with other dachshunds and seems to know his own breed; however, he does not like other breeds of dogs and has displayed some aggression towards other dogs that approach him. He also seems to think that chasing cars and bikes is something fun to do. He will need to be in a home with someone that can work with him to break that habit of wanting to chase. Melvin would prefer a home with a fenced in yard. He has a very relaxed demeanor and would be great as an only dog. Melvin is a gorgeous standard with beautiful shiny black fur and a very nice stance. He gets many compliments wherever he goes. We encourage adopters from all over the United States and will do our absolute best to accommodate you in arranging for transportation if you choose to adopt a dachshund from FDR. If your dachshund of choice is coming from a state other than the one you reside in, there will be an additional $40.00 Health Certificate Fee that is required by law.
