Furever Dachshund Rescue

Foster Dog Information

This is a COURTESY LISTING.  This dachshund is not a Furever Dachshund Rescue dachshund but we are helping another rescue to find placement for him.

My Name is: Kodee

My age is: 5yo

I am a: Dachshund

I am:  Male

I weigh:  20lbs

My colors and markings are: Red Double Dapple

I am current on all my vaccines:   Yes

I am: (choose one – even if not now they will be before adoption so please state) Spayed   Neutered

I am housetrained:    Work in Progress

I am crate trained:   No* (crate anxiety from vision issues, so he is gated in a room instead. He goes into his crate for food, treats, toys, though)

I am considered special needs:  Yes

I would do well in a home with children under the age of 8 years old:   Unsure – he loves kids, but because of his sight, he is protective and could be reactive because of that.

I enjoy the company of other dogs:  Males & Females (He likes submissive dogs, or dogs that don’t get bent out of shape when he talks at them)

I enjoy the company of cats: (choose one)   Not sure -  We have introduced him to the cat, but I am a novice cat owner, so I don’t know if he would be ok over time or not. While on the lead, he would listen to the commands to distract him, but he would also go towards her and snap at her and make contact. But he didn’t bark at her or grab and shake her. I don’t know if he was over stimulated and trying to play?

I require Heartworm Medication on this day every month:  1st

My adoption fee is:  This is a Courtesy Listing so please ask foster mom when you contact her!

BIO: (05.17.2012)

Hi, My name is Kodee. I'm a Texas boy that moved to the Midwest to be with my foster momma and daddy. I love adventure and traveling in the car, so I am ready to see where my forever home will be. Virginia, New York, Georgia? There are so many places to see!
I love exploring the yard (and providing fence protection - you never know what's on the other side waiting to try to sneak in my yard!) and my mom says I pretend to play fetch. I will chase the ball, but foster mom is working with me on actually dropping the ball and not running away and turning it into a game of chase. Ha ha! The joke's on her because chase is my favorite game! I love to chase the other dogs around the yard, but sometimes I get frustrated when I can't catch them. You see, I have a hard time seeing at times, but it really doesn't slow me down. I run around after the dogs and I walk carefully in the house. I just have to bark at my foster dad when he leaves something new on the floor that might be in my path. What a jerk - doesn't he know that humans are supposed to accommodate all doxie needs?
For those of you that are wondering about my unique markings, I am a purebred red double dapple (DD) and as DD owners know, we can have hearing and sight issues from our poor genetics from trying to breed cute or pretty doxies. To many, I don't look like a purebred doxie, but that happens when breeders aren't maintaining breed standards. I am told that I am one of the lucky double dapples. My hearing is fine, but I do have some vision issues (many are blind and deaf).
I have settled into my foster home and am learning to be an independent doxie, which is hard when all I want to do is snuggle in your lap and be where you want to be. I mean, humans do all kinds of interesting things and I want to be a part of all of it! My foster mom is also working on obedience with me. When I moved, I already knew sit, down and stay. I also surprised her with a roll over / play dead demo that she found out by accident when she was trying to get a puppy into a sit position. We are working on new "tricks" and better dog behavior - I love to rush through doors, so I am working on a sit/wait/release command.
Check out this video of me doing my tricks!

My foster mom isn't sure how I would do with cats, since she is newly owned by a cat. I have been introduced, but I was REALLY interested and was barking and she's not sure if my interest will ever calm down. She thinks it might be best if I don't have a home with cats, but then again, she just doesn't know.
I am neutered, I go to the bathroom outside/use potty pads, I am up to date on my vaccines, heartworm/parasite free and I even got my teeth cleaned!

I would absolutely love someone that was home a lot so I could follow them around and do all of the cool things they do, but I understand that humans need to leave the house for doxie things. My foster parents leave the house and I am ok with that, but I wish they were home to snuggle more.
Please contact my foster mom via email at bartonhounds@gmail.com to find out more about me.
