I have been:  Neutered

I am housetrained:   Yes,   (also pee-pad trained)

I am crate trained:   I haven’t been in a crate since I was age 2, but I use to sleep in a crate at night.  Now Mom puts up the baby gate and my large canine sister and I have the foyer all to ourselves at night with lots of dog beds and a blanket for me to snuggle under.  If I get chilly I just whine at my 16-year-old human sister’s door, and she brings me into her bed (she’s wrapped around my little paw).  I like to cuddle behind her knees with only my tiny black nose poking out.

I am considered special needs:    No

I have these Behavioral Issues:

I am an anxious little fellow and when children play I get really anxious and can be nippy and bite.  I also do not like when children pick me up and have bitten when my boundaries are not respected.  I am okay when my Mom picks me up because she knows how to hold me properly and listens to my growls if I am uncomfortable.  I do love to sit in laps and like to walk my way into any open lap that will have me.   When people run I like to chase after them, it makes me anxious.   I always give a grumbly growl warning when I am in uncomfortable situations and as long as people listen to me and respect me I do just fine.

I am protective of my home and need to be introduced thoughtfully and very carefully to new people who enter my home.  I like to bark when someone enters my home, and get really worked up if it’s a stranger.  It takes me a little while to warm up to people, but once I do I am fine.

I do fine when I am home alone, I am very respectful of my family’s belonging.  Sometimes though when my family is leaving I let out a really loud howl, but I settle in really quickly and enjoy my time alone when they are gone.  Sometimes I even howl at  my Mom if she goes downstairs and leaves me upstairs (even though I know how to use the stairs!).  I might howl for a few seconds, but I settle down really quickly.  My Mom never knows when I might howl at her for leaving me; I like to keep her on her toes!

I am also a perfect alarm system!  No one will ever be near out house without me telling you all about it!  One of my favorite things is to get on the cushion on the back of the couch and look out the picture window.  Mom lets me stay there until I bark too much at people running by.

I would do well in a home with children under the age of 8 years old:    No

I enjoy the company of other dogs: Yes, I used to love being with my canine sister Lucy.  Make sure and introduce me properly, and no really crazy, wild active dogs.

I enjoy the company of cats:  I’ve never seen a cat before.

I receive Heartworm Medication on this day every month:  10th

I receive Flea and Tick Preventative on this date every month:   10th

My Micro-chip number is:   985 121 002 367 424

BIO:

Hi!  My name is Cosmic Charlie, aka Charlie, I am a loving, smart, handsome, anxious Dachshund, I am not sure what that means, but those are some words my Mom would use to describe me.  She says my good looks melt her heart, and my kisses and snuggles make her heart content.  She says my beard, my eyebrows, and my amazing eyelashes are my best features.  She even brings me to the groomers 2-3 times a year (they know how cranky I can be).

I just love to go for walks but I love it when Mom asks if I want to go for a ride!  I get so excited to go for a car ride.  Mom knows me pretty well and as excited as I get to go in the car, I feel nervous when I go for rides.  I don’t get anxious at all, but just whine.  Mom calls it my “slow and low” whine.    Mom tries reassuring me and sometimes I give her a look and she’ll let me ride in her lap.  It is still a little scary even in Moms lap for me.  I love the idea of going for a ride more than I actually like to ride.  But Mom says I am getting better at it and settle down after a few minutes.

I also love to bask in the fresh air and Sun on the deck in the spring, summer and fall.  I really love to be outside, and think a doggie door to a fenced off deck who be a dream!  I do bark at people running by, or other people and their dogs, but when Mom says “enough” I know it is time to quite down.

I love to give hugs and kisses and will cuddle with you all night on the couch if you will let me.  Mom gives me treats too.  She even taught me the word “gentle” when I take a treat.  When she says this I know I have to go super slow, and super easy to get my treat.  Oh, she also makes me “sit”, and sometimes give my “paw”.  She has me trained for both paws depending on which hand you extend.   Sometimes she even tells me “leave it”, and I am forced to stare at my treat until she waves her hand and says “ok”.

I always do my “business” outside and if I just can’t hold it until it is time to go out I will go to the door and whine to let you know I need to go out.  Sometimes if Mom takes me outside and I dilly-dally she will tell me to “go pee”, when she says that I know I better try.  Sometimes if it is raining really hard and I really don’t want to go out Mom will put a piddle pad down and tell me to “go pee”.  She knows how much I hate the down pouring rain.  I will hold it forever before I go out in the downpour sometimes.

I’ve been with my family since I was 8 weeks old. I like my Mom and Dad a whole lot.  They feed me, pat me, cuddle me and kiss me a lot, just like my siblings do, but they don’t get all crazy around me.  I think I am just a more mature guy and enjoy a nice calm relaxed environment. I have 4 human siblings and I love them all, but sometimes they make me really anxious and I have a hard time dealing with them.  When they really get on my nerves I growl at them and when that doesn’t work I may nip.  I don’t mean to hurt them, it makes me really sad to see them upset, but all that running and giggling makes me feel really out of control and I don’t know what else to do.

I would be a great dog companion for an adult household because children really make me anxious. If you think that you would like to bring me home and love me furever please fill out an adoption application today.
