Kiara - SC
Kiara (now Denali) is doing great!! She was very nervous when I first got her but attached to me very quickly. She loves just following me around the apartment, laying on the bed, and having her belly rubbed. Although we had a little trouble getting her up here, she escaped from me at a rest stop in VA when I drove down to SC to get her, we got her back, safe and sound to Rhode Island. She is so sweet and funny and a great traveler. She has already gone to visit the grandparents in Colorado and did great! I don't think I could have asked for a better dog :]
I've attached two pictures. One is of her on my desk. I was doing work one night and she was on my lap and I guess decided I wasn't paying enough attention to her and she climbed up on the desk and laid down on the mouse. The second is just a cute close up of her.
Glad I could add another story to the Happy Tails section!

Katie - GA
Katie found her Furever home with Nadine, her foster mom! Almost eight months ago I decided to become a foster mom! I read a story online about a dachshund that had been abused, turned in to a shelter, rescued by a dachshund rescue, nursed back to health in a foster home and eventually adopted by a wonderful couple. I figured this was something that I could do to help. However, I was “doomed” from the start. I saw a picture of this tiny dog cowering in the back of this enormous cement cage at a kill shelter and she was marked urgent. I had to save her! I convinced Deeann (FDR intake coordinator) that I should go and get her and take her into foster even though she didn’t really look like a dachshund (the shelter said she was but turns out she is a chiweenie). When we first got Katie she was skinny and scared of everyone but especially of men. She has come a long way since then and loves her foster dad tons now. She loves to curl up on a lap and sleep under the blankets on the big bed. She mostly gets along with her brother and sisters and loves to go in the crate with Rufus. Loves going for walks and going to the dog park. She is a sweet, cute little thing who has become my shadow and there was no way I was going to give her up. I really admire those who can foster because, obviously, not everyone can. I am glad that there are still many other ways that I can help FDR ....home visits, transportation, help with fund raisers. These are things that even a “FAILED FOSTER” can do :)

Kaitlyn
We had to rename the pups because we have nieces named Madeline and Katelyn and that wasn’t going over too well! We sail to islands in Massachusetts during the summer, so we named them with that in mind. Katelyn has been renamed Cutty (for Cuttyhunk) and Madeline has been renamed Nanny (for Nantucket). They have learned their new names already and are doing wonderfully. We are absolutely in love with them! They have adapted well to our home and the housetraining is going fairly well. They have a huge extended family who love to have them visit. The pictures attached have them relaxing with us on a Sunday morning! Regards, Al and Sheila
